About

I used to live in Brighton and still spend a lot of time there, working on portrait commissions along the seafront. That area forms the basis for many of my paintings, particularly the cycle lane, which I used to ride along regularly.

The scooter scenes are loosely inspired by those journeys, with the sense of movement and routine feeding into the images. Seagulls are also a constant presence in Brighton, and often appear in the work.

I draw on my background in figure drawing to give the animals a sense of structure and character. The aim is to introduce a slight human quality to the dogs, cats and seagulls, while still keeping their essential animal nature.
